Tournament Format, Rules, and Regulations
The Perth Lawn Tennis Championships is a Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) sanctioned tournament. As such, the championships will be played according to the guidelines of the GLTA and of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Draws
Elimination Draws will be utilised for most events. Players knocked-out in the 1st Round of the singles will be eligible for the Consolation event. This ensures all players get a minimum of 2 matches.
There will be a Round Robin format for Womens Open A/B Grade Doubles, Womens C/D Doubles, Ladies Singles and All-Gender D Grade Doubles
Match Play
All matches in the main draw will be Best of 3 sets.
We will use Reduced Advantage scoring. Second deuce Sudden Death -
Receiver chooses service box for deciding point.
We will have a 7-point tiebreak at 6-6 in set 1 & 2.
Set 3 is decided with a 10-point match tie-break.
Exception: Due to the size of the draw, the All Gender D Grade Doubles event will use the pro-set format for their Round Robin draw, followed by a regular 3-set Final for the top two teams.
Attire
Proper tennis attire required. Non-marking shoes required. Shirts required.
Hydration
There will be large water coolers with filtered iced-water, available at the net change over for all courts. Filtered water fountains are available at both venues for personal water bottle refills.
Check-in
Required 30 min before match time. Early check-ins may be asked to play early. Any appeals will be decided by the Tournament Director(s).
Late Arrival
Late Arrival: 0-5 min=loss of toss and 1 game; 5-10 min=loss of toss and 2 games; 10-15 min=loss of toss and three games; 15 minutes or
more=default.
Balls
Slazenger tennis balls will be used for all matches played on Grass. AO Dunlop Balls will be used for Hard court matches for the consolation events.
New balls for main draw matches.
One-time-used balls for consolation matches.
Warm-Up
All matches will be escorted to the court by one of our Court Marshalls. Our marshalls will take your pre-match photo, conduct the coin toss and set a 5 minute timer for your warmup. Announcing a 1 minute notice. Play will begin after the marshall leaves the court.
Rest Breaks
20 seconds between points (not counting tracking down balls; 90
seconds on changeovers; 2 minutes between sets. Players are
allowed a reasonable amount of time for bathroom breaks.
Rest and Heat
A minimum 30 minute rest period between matches.
Heat-rule - We will be adhering to the Tennis Australia guidelines that take effect at 38C.
Consolation Events
You need to register (immediately after the loss of your first match)
at the tournament office of City Beach, if you would like to play the consolation event. Consolation events may be played on synthetic grass or hard court at the discretion of the tournament directors.
Consolation Pro-Sets
Pro Set until 8 games (tie-break at 8-8.
